Japanese Quail have been domesticated for thousands of years. The adults are about the size of a large avocado. This breed specializes in laying eggs, which are a delicacy, despite being about 1/4th the size of a chicken egg. Similar to a chicken, they are ground birds that have flocks of hens with one or two roosters. They can fly to escape danger, but prefer to run and hide in the brush. Ours are hand raised, so they can be held and petted. You will get to feel their super soft feathers and hear their strange calls!
